I worked those years in the Bering Sea on a 200-foot fishing vessel. And during that time, I worked more hours in a three-month contract than many people do in an entire year.
The average week consisted of seven, sixteen-hour-per-day shifts. In some of the iciest, most treacherous stretches of ocean in the world.
I developed more aches and pains in five years of fishing than I thought I’d feel in my entire life. My joints and knees ached constantly. My sleep patterns had become erratic. I’d wake up in the middle of the night, not be able to get back to sleep, and pay for it all day! Have you ever had that feeling?
Plus, I’d become addicted to heavy, oily foods while at sea. I felt like that was the only option to keep me full! I was always “hungry” even though I ate tons of food.
After fishing contracts were over, I replaced that heavy-oily food with even more of it while on land—at fast food restaurants!
